Data Sources & Ethics Policy

Last updated: March 2026

1. Nature of Content

Alexis is a legal research and analytics platform that indexes and processes judicial decisions and orders made publicly available by courts and tribunals in India.

Judicial decisions are public records issued in the exercise of judicial functions. Alexis accesses such material solely for research, reference, and informational purposes.

Alexis does not claim copyright over any judicial decision.

2. Sources of Data

Alexis obtains judgments only from official and original sources, including but not limited to:

  • Websites of courts and tribunals
  • Official judgment repositories maintained by judicial authorities

Wherever feasible, Alexis provides a direct link to the original source website from which a judgment was obtained.

3. Access Controls & Ethical Use

Alexis follows a strict non-circumvention policy when accessing judicial content.

  • Alexis does not bypass or defeat captchas, authentication systems, or technical access controls
  • Where human verification is required, access is performed manually by an authorised user
  • Automation is limited to post-access processing such as storage, indexing, and search

Alexis does not engage in automated captcha solving, credential reuse, session replay, or abusive request patterns.

4. Human-in-the-Loop Ingestion

For sources that require human verification, Alexis employs a human-in-the-loop ingestion model:

  • A human user lawfully accesses the judgment through the official portal
  • The resulting page or document is manually saved or uploaded
  • Alexis processes only information that was lawfully visible through such access

This approach ensures respect for both technical safeguards and ethical access expectations.

5. Auditability & Provenance

Alexis maintains internal audit records for each ingestion activity to ensure transparency, accountability, and traceability.

These records may include:

  • Source of the document
  • Method of access
  • Time of ingestion
  • File integrity verification

6. Accuracy & Corrections

Judgments are presented as obtained from official sources. If a document is found to be incomplete, incorrect, or withdrawn by the issuing authority, Alexis will take appropriate corrective action.

Additional Terms

This policy should be read together with Alexis’ Terms of Use. Where there is any inconsistency, the Terms of Use will govern.

7. Disclaimer

Alexis is not an official court service. The platform is intended for research and reference only and does not constitute legal advice.
