1. This writ petition filed in public interest points out harassment being caused to the senior citizens by their sons and daughters-in-law.

2. In this case, the legislature has enacted “Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007”. The writ petitioner seeks a direction to the respondent nos.[1] to 6 to constitute a committee/board to examine the complaints by the senior citizens against such sons and daughters-in-law and to ensure that no threat 2018:DHC:788-DB W.P.(C) No.606/2018 Pg.[2] of 2 or harassment is caused to them.

3. The writ petitioner also seeks directions to safety and security of the senior citizens and provide monitory and legal help so that they may live with a dignity till they are alive and also no property of any senior citizens be transferred to any person till the approval of concerned authority.

4. Such prayers require to be considered by the respondents and a view be taken there on inasmuch as these would be the matters of policy and if deemed appropriate legislations.

5. This writ petition along with pending application are disposed of with a direction to the respondents to consider this petition same as representation and take a view thereon.

6. Needless to say that respondent would take into consideration the statutory provisions made under “Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007” and examine the aspects as to whether any additional provisions to secure the rights of the senior citizens are necessary. Dasti.
