1. Pursuant to order dated 11.03.2019 passed by Hon’ble the Supreme Court in W.P.(C) No.183/2013, this public interest litigation has been initiated suo motu by this Court to deal with the issue pertaining to filling up of the large number of vacancies in the different posts in Delhi Police.

2. Having heard the learned counsel appearing for the respondent at length and looking to the counter affidavit/affidavits/status report filed by the respondent and also the extracts of the minutes dated 24.12.2020, it appears that as on 15.12.2019 the total sanctioned strength of force in Delhi police is 91962 and total vacancies are approximately 10,130. 2020:DHC:726-DB WP(C) No.4703/2019

3. Counsel appearing for the respondent submitted that for 2605 vacancies advertisement has already been issued and the recruitment process is going on. Similarly, for 1402 posts recruitment process is going on. For 6610 vacancies advertisement will be given as per schedule mentioned in the affidavit of respondent dated 09.01.2020.

4. In view of the affidavits/status report filed by the respondent and the schedule for further appointments, given in the affidavit dated 09.01.2020 of the respondent, we see no reason to further monitor this case as there are only 10% vacancies against the total sanctioned strength for which action are being taken by the respondent authority.

5. Hence this writ petition and pending application are hereby disposed of with expectations from the respondent that they shall fill up the vacancies as early as possible and practicable.
