1. This hearing has been held through video conferencing.

2. As per the status report which has been filed by the GNCTD, out of a total of 29,098 advocates the data in respect of 11,168 advocates has been updated. 2021:DHC:166 W.P.(C) 3298/2020 & connected matters

3. The Bar Council of Delhi (hereinafter ‘BCD’) raises a grievance that some lawyers could not open the link for updating their personal data.

4. Considering the fact that the GNCTD and the BCD are making the insurance policy possible for lawyers, they shall adopt a coordinated and collaborative approach to ensure that all lawyers update their data on or before 30th January, 2021. In case all lawyers do not update their data, the data as is available with the GNCTD/BCD shall be given to the New India Assurance Company Limited (hereinafter, ‘NIACL’) who will then issue ecards to all the eligible advocates. At the time of receiving any claim, if there is any data discrepancy which is found, correction of the data would be permitted by the NIACL after verification with the BCD/ GNCTD. The final data shall be transmitted to NIACL on or before 5th February, 2021 and the e-cards shall be issued by NIACL on or before 15th February, 2021.

5. The excess premium amounts in terms of the order dated 15th December, 2020 shall be retained till 28th February, 2021. It is submitted that insofar as the Life Insurance Corporation of India (hereinafter, ‘LIC’) is concerned, the PDF’s of the policies are stated have been communicated to a majority of lawyers and only a few lawyers are left. The BCD is directed to keep in touch with LIC so that the policies are issued to all the lawyers who are beneficiaries under the scheme.
